Overclock mac pro tower11/1/2022 ![]() ![]() Throw in some FSB OC'ing under Windows and beyond 4ghz could be achievable with the higher multi 5400's. These 45nm chips should do these speeds with their eyes shut! If you really wanna save some cash, a pair of 5430's will deliver 3.2gHz for around the price of Apples V8 2.8 version with a little bit of DIY. #Overclock mac pro tower mod#(the 5482 Xeon only has an 8.0x multi)Ī pair of 5460's (3.16gHz-1333/333 FSB) Xeons with the BSEL mod works out to a 3.8gHz bottom line at stock FSB, while a pair of 3450's will yield 3.6gHz. Seems Intel has fixed this for us now with the new 1333 Harpertowns all the way up to 9.5x multi's. One of the problems with the old BSEL mod was the available chips. As the BSEL mod works 'dandy' on the earlier Xeons/Mac Pro's (ie, 1066/233 Xeons running at 1333/333 FSB), there is no reason that this trick won't work with 1333/333 to 1600/400 FSB. (I'd put 2 of these under a pair of Vapo's in a heartbeat ) I should add, that IF all soft multiplier OC'ing efforts failed to succeed, due to QX chips being physically unlocked, pin modding will force whatever multi you need.! The prospect of Mulitplier OC'ing a Mac Pro should make any hard core user drool. (remember, you still have a spare Xeon 45nm/1600fsb 5462 to unload at the end - and you can't buy these on the street yet!). The single Xeon option currently works out about $3000 cheaper than the Dual 5482 model - making a pair of QX9775 "Skulltrail" chips in one of these viable. With no unlocked Xeons to play with until now, no-one (that I'm aware of) has tried playing with the EFI to see what can happen. The Xeon 5482 now shipping as an option in the new Mac Pro's is the exact same chip as the QX9775 (3.2gHz/1600fsb/45nm part) - except - the QX is multi unlocked - (and gawd damn expensive!). (there are better resources out there guys - these are quick google links) Let's move on. OC'ing via multiplier, to date has not been possible. ![]() FSB OC'ing under windows and processor BSEL modding under all OS's have both proven successful. I'll avoid discussion here - but it can be done. A few things come to mind.īefore I go on, there are ways to OC Mac Pro's. Just been checking out the latest prices on the new Harpertown V8 Macs and noticed that the dual/quad 5482 (3.2gHz) Version is add $2270. Being 'overclockers' and all - figured you guys might be interested! Seems we have some new hope for extreme clocked Mac Pro's thanks to Harpertown. ![]()
